Windows 7: Click the Windows Start button and go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Volume Control.

On the Options menu, click Properties.
The Properties dialog box appears.

In the Adjust Volume For section, click Recording.

Click OK to close the Properties dialog box.

Make sure What You Hear or Stereo Mix (exact name various depending on the sound card manufacturer) is not selected. If this option is enabled, click the Select check box below the desired input (normally Line In or Mic).

Windows 7: Click the Windows Start button and go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Manage audio devices.
When you open the Windows Mixer it may be labeled Playback or Recording. We want to see the recording controls.
