Comping and Take lane enhancements

Comping and take management has undergone a massive overhaul for this release with many workflow improvements, optimizations and bug fixes. A few highlights:

Freely assemble clips in Take lanes

Take lanes are now equally suited for both assembling clips and comping. Freely assemble clips in Take lanes either by recording or dragging and dropping from different sources.

Optionally disable Smart tool comping behavior

If you are not creating a comp track, but simply assembling clips in Take lanes, you might find that the Smart tool’s comping behavior produce unintended results in certain situations, such as inadvertently isolating clips in when clicking the bottom half of clips.

You can configure the Smart tool to disable comping features while editing clips in Take lanes and re-enable it when you are ready to start building a comp track. For details, see To customize the Smart tool.

Copy/paste and drag drop enhancements

There have been numerous improvements and bug fixes with selection and copy paste:

Inter project drag and drop and copy/paste support for Take lanes and Automation lanes.

Improved drag drop preview to visually represent the final data.

Full support for drag and drop of Take lanes between tracks.

New lanes are auto appended to tracks when dropping/pasting clips from multiple Take lanes.

Lane order is retained when dropping/pasting clips from multiple lanes.

Improved support for pasting track and clip envelopes in lanes.

Ability to drag multiple audio files from Browser to Take lanes.

Behavior changes

In order to improve workflow, a few default behaviors have changed:

Editing clips in Take lanes no longer modifies track automation. If you want track automation to follow when you drag a clip in a Take lane, drop the clip on the parent track (comp clip) instead of a Take lane.

When isolating clips in Take lanes during playback, the Now time no longer automatically jumps to the beginning of the isolated clip. To jump to the clip start when isolating clips, hold down the SHIFT key. You can also audition the selected clip by pressing SHIFT+SPACEBAR.

 

Note: The Delete Muted Takes composite clip context menu command has been renamed to Delete Muted Clips to better reflect its function. The command does not delete muted Take lanes, but rather deletes muted clips in the current track that span the composite clip duration.
